The settings that matter most
Every app has settings people skip. In gambling, the skipped settings are the expensive ones. This hub collects them — the habits, the switches and the phone numbers — so play stays what it's supposed to be: entertainment with a price you chose in advance.
What's the legal age where I live?
19 in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador (and Ontario). 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec. Brisks Bet is for adults of legal gambling age only.
Which habits actually protect me?
- Set the loss budget before opening any app — treat it as already spent.
- Turn on deposit limits the day the account opens; calm-day decisions hold better than losing-day ones.
- End sessions on the clock, not on the result. Both winning and losing argue for "one more."
- Never chase losses — chasing is the mechanism by which entertainment becomes harm.
- Keep gambling away from alcohol and low moods; both inflate stakes.
- Read bonuses as playtime, never as profit — wagering conditions guarantee it.
What are the warning signs?
Spending past the plan more than once. Hiding play from people close to you. Borrowing to fund it, or bills waiting behind it. Gambling to repair a mood or a loss. Restlessness when cutting back. Two or more of those signs deserve one free, confidential phone call — the lines below are staffed by people who listen without judging.

What switches live inside a casino account?
Deposit limits, reality checks, time-outs and self-exclusion. Lowering a limit applies instantly; raising one is delayed on purpose — the asymmetry is a feature, built to favour your calmest self. Where provincial self-exclusion programs exist, use them alongside the operator's own.
What if money is already tight?
Gambling debt is still just debt, and it responds to structure: a provincial credit-counselling service or licensed insolvency trustee can build a plan. Handling the money conversation makes the gambling conversation easier — take both.
